  • Scientific Thinking: Encourage students to ask questions, form hypotheses, investigate, and explain their reasoning, building strong foundations in core subject knowledge.
  • Classroom Culture: Create a classroom culture that values curiosity, rigor, collaboration, and persistence.
  • Feedback and Differentiation: Monitor student understanding, provide constructive feedback, and adapt instruction to different levels of readiness while maintaining appropriate challenge.
  • Communication: Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues, and support PopSmart's broader STEM and competition-preparation programs where appropriate.

  • Experience teaching elementary and/or middle school students.
  • Strong understanding of core science concepts.
  • Ability to explain challenging ideas clearly and accurately.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills.
  • Creativity, patience, dependability, and enthusiasm for science education.
  • Comfort leading hands-on experiments and small-group learning.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Teaching certification or relevant educational credentials.
  • Previous classroom, enrichment, tutoring, laboratory, or competition-preparation experience.
  • Familiarity with programs such as Science Olympiad, National Science Bowl, or science fairs is a plus.

Schedule & Compensation

  • Hours: Approximately 10–15 hours per week, with flexible scheduling outside of key family times.
  • Compensation: Fixed part-time compensation equivalent to $23–$25 per hour, depending on experience.
  • Employment Classification: Part-time W-2 employee. Includes Washington State sick leave accrual.
