Today we’re turning leftover turkey bones into bendy, rubbery bones!
You’ll need: Turkey bones • Vinegar • Jar • Water • Labels
Clean the bone. First, clean off your turkey bone so it’s ready for the experiment.
Try bending the bone now—it’s very strong and stiff.
Add vinegar & label
We're putting the Turkey bone into the jar and now we pour the vinegar over it until it's completely submerged. We'll label it with today's date and seal it up. Let's see what happens.
Watch bubbles form! That’s science!
The vinegar starts reacting right away—you’ll see bubbles as the acid removes calcium!
Check your bone each day. It gets softer as the week goes on.
Bend it!
After about a week, take it out and try bending it again. Look—it’s flexible!
After soaking the bone in vinegar it actually bends!
Vinegar removes calcium → Bone becomes bendy!
The vinegar dissolves calcium, which makes bones hard. Without it, the bone becomes bendy!
Try it at home and explore more fun science experiments!
